The story itself may not be filled with spectacular super-human feats or rom-com left and right as expected of most JP MCs, but it is realistic in the sense that almost all characters are believable in how they think and act. Whether or not other people can appreciate this kind of unwavering personality is up to them, but I personally thought it's a great survival trait in the environment he was in. Basically he has his own set of principles that ignores the usual societal norms. That and other people's problems are their own problems, and mistakes he makes are his own responsibility. He is also not evil, and more that he dislikes doing anything for free, or being in debt to anyone for anything. He was and always will be the cold and cynical anti-social loner that likes to do things at his own pace and make decisions with himself as the priority, no matter what social pressures are placed upon him. The MC, Yusuke, never did change his character since the start to the end. But the story, especially when read from the perspective of the visual novel, was a lot more interesting than expected. I fully admit that during first time reading this, the only thing that interested me was the world with zombies and lewds.
